Showgirl Competition dates: Entries Open: Now Entries Close: 7 March 2021 Judging Day: 14 March 2021 (Junior, Teen and Senior), 13 April 2021 (Senior) This year the Showgirl Committee were lucky enough to receive a grant to subsidize the competition. As such, entry is free for all participants.
The Showgirl Competition is an excellent way to become involved in your local community and the Kempsey Show Society. The purpose of the program is to better your skills such as public speaking, community involvement, event organisation, personal presentation etc. There are three age categories:
Senior: 18 years to 24 years (as of 1 May 2022).
Teen: 13 years to 17 years.
Junior: 8 years to 12 years.
The competition will be held prior to the show and the winners are announced on the Tuesday night of the 2021 Show. The competition includes an interview with a panel of local judges and a sit-down meal. It is a chance to get to know other like-minded people in your local community. The competition can open up so many pathways and opportunities such as attending the Zone 1 Finals, qualifying for Sydney Royal, assisting with the Kempsey Showgirl Ball etc. The event is what you make of it!
Showgirl Information Day Date: 13 March Location: Kempsey Showgrounds Time: 9-9:15am - 3:30pm Cost: Free, morning tea and lunch included. What to wear: Casual/comfortable clothing What's included: We are holding a number of 30-45 minute sessions focusing on: interview skills, public speaking, hair care, skin care, what's included in the Showgirl competition, an inspiring story from Melinda Pavey and a careers segment. We will require participants to RSVP by 7 March for catering purposes. Showgirl Competition (Teen and Senior) Date: 14 March Location: RSL Club Time: 5:00pm (roughly) - entrants will be emailed with an interview time Cost: Free (dinner provided) What to wear: Cocktail/Smart dinnerware e.g. a dress, jumpsuit, or blouse and dress pants (this will be covered in the Information Day) What's included: The Teen judging will begin first. Entrants will be emailed with an interview time. The interview is with a panel of three judges (they're all very friendly) and will go for approximately 10mins. The interview will focus on questions surrounding local knowledge, interest in the Show etc. After each interview the girls will be able to mix and socialise. After the Teen interviews are finished, the Teen and Senior entrants will sit down for dinner with the judges. The judges will rotate around to ensure they get to chat to everyone. The senior entrants will then be asked to give a short 1 minute speech. At the conclusion of the speeches the Teen entrants are free to leave and we will commence the Senior judging.
Showgirl Competition (Juniors) Date: 14 March Location: RSL Club Time: 9:00am (roughly) - entrants will be emailed with an interview time Cost: Free (morning tea provided) What to wear: Smart casual wear e.g. a dress, blouse and dress pants, a jumpsuit etc. What's included: Entrants will be emailed with an interview time after the RSVP date (7 March). Each entrant will have a 10min interview with a panel of three friendly judges. The judges will ask questions about likes and interests. After the interview entrants are invited to relax and mingle. A free morning tea will be provided to allow the families and judges to chat. After each entrant has had morning tea and an interview the judging process is completed. The winner and runner-up are announced on the Tuesday night of the show (13 April).
At the Show All entrants receive free entry into the show. On the Tuesday of the show (13 April), the Senior Showgirl will be present and helping throughout the day. We will organise interactive, fun activities available to the public. We will also sash some placegetters in the various sections e.g. cattle, horses etc. On the Tuesday evening we will hold the official opening ceremony and the Showgirl presentation. Girls are asked to wear a smart/casual outfit - they will be expected to walk around in the arena so practical shoes are a must. There are a number of great prizes on offer to both the winners and runners up of each age category.
